Seeking education outside the public school establishment can be tricky, but not impossible. For some people, free schools, private schools or homeschooling can be good options, although private schools and homeschooling tend to be regulated by the state.

It's also worth noting that some colleges and universities like MIT have made their curricula available online for free. If you're interested in learning, but don't need a degree, this could be useful.
